Albir
Albir is on the coast and is asmall town between Benidorm and Altea and is part of Alfaz del Pi which is onthe other side of the main road. In Albir there are about 5,000 inhabitants andin the municipality about 20,000. Most of the buildings are low because you arenot allowed to build more than a maximum of 4 floors.Playa de Racó is Albir's beachwhich is 600 meters long and consists of smooth small stones. From the beachyou can see away to Calpeklippan. The beach is very well maintained and has ablue flag. One of Albir's most popular walks is the path to the lighthouselocated in the Sierra Helada area.The road there is just over 2 kmon winding roads following the edge of the mountain and it is incrediblybeautiful. The second promenade is the Paseo de las Estrellas which runs alongthe sea, a fine marble promenade with stars in the ground in honor of the starswho have won awards at the Albir Film Festival.In the central parts of Albir,there is no height difference, so you can easily get there on foot. Here youcan find all kinds of shopping with clothing and jewelry stores, flower shops,Chinese bazaars, sports and shoe stores to name a few.In Albir there is a largeselection of restaurants, bars and cafes, many with an international character.On Sundays there is a market inthe large car park by the main street and during the summer months there is acraft fair down on the promenade.Bodegas Mendoza is a nice winerylocated between Albir and Alfaz del Pi and well worth a visit. Here you canbook in on a pleasant, guided wine tour that ends with a wine tasting and forthose who want, it is fine to buy wine to take with you. Albir has a typical Mediterraneanclimate with hot summers, mild winters, minimal rain and over 320 sunny daysper year. The distance between Alicante andAlbir is about 50 km. By car you can reach Albir in 45 minutes. Airport busavailable from Alicante airport. The bus costs about 10 Euros and is a goodalternative for those who do not rent a car. There are also good busconnections in the area, including daily buses to Benidorm.
